New Delhi: US President Donald Trump on Friday congratulated former Indian ambassador to US Taranjit Singh Sandhu on his appointment as the lieutenant governor of Delhi while also lauding Sandhu’s contributions to strengthening India-US ties.“Congratulations to Taranjit Sandhu on becoming the new Lt Governor of Delhi! As a seasoned Diplomat and former Ambassador to the United States, he has always shown deep commitment to strengthening the U.S.-India relationship. Wishing him success in leading Delhi’s progress, and furthering global ties!” Trump said on social media.Sandhu was appointed the LG on March 5 and took oath on March 11. He said Delhi was his ‘karmabhoomi’ and he will work with all stakeholders and turn challenges into opportunities and will work for the city’s development.Since assuming office, Sandhu has been visiting different parts of Delhi to review development work and civic infrastructure.He has held frequent review meetings with chief minister Rekha Gupta, ministers and senior officials across departments, including coordination with the Delhi Police to address law-and-order and traffic management.For traffic management he has put emphasis on easing congestion, which includes involving RWAs.He has asked officials to work on inter-agency coordination and time-bound resolution of urban issues affecting daily life.
