Agartala: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) observed Thursday as a “Black Day” and demanded the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that democratic rights were being undermined across the country.Led by TPCC president Ashish Kumar Saha and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Congress workers held a protest march in Agartala dressed in black. Similar protests were organised in other parts of the state.“We have gathered today to stand against the harsh treatment and unnecessary police actions observed before, including the mistreatment of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Kharge, and members of the INDIA bloc, along with senior officials. This protest seeks to defend democratic institutions and demand the immediate resignation of Gyanesh Kumar,” Roy Barman said.Leading the chant, “Gyanesh must go,” Roy Barman emphasised the party’s dedication to continuing its efforts to “restore democracy” across the country.He alleged that the constitutional right to protest was being curtailed and that police were being used to prevent citizens from exercising their rights.
