Travellers across the US are reacting to the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at airports. The agents have been deployed to assist the TSA during the partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security. TSA officers have been working without pay since funding lapsed in February, leading to staffing shortages. The union that represents the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers criticised the move, saying staff “deserve to be paid, not replaced by untrained, armed agents”.
