State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil made the announcement on Thursday at a discussion organised by his department

Mumbai, The Maharashtra government has made it mandatory for principals, directors and faculty of colleges to undergo training from May, as the state prepares to roll out new four-year undergraduate programmes under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil made the announcement on Thursday at a discussion organised by his department.

As per an official release, the Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA) is already preparing the Learning Management System (LMS) course for the online training, which is expected to begin mid-May and continue in phases through May and June.

The self-paced course training will cover both aided and unaided colleges, with the larger training exercise for professors continuing over the next few months, it said

The online training has been made compulsory to ensure the new academic structure is introduced uniformly across colleges, and there are no academic or administrative issues during implementation.

Patil said this decision is an important step towards making higher education more flexible and research-oriented under NEP 2020.

Four-year undergraduate programmes, including honours and honours with research degrees, will be introduced from the 2026-27 academic year.

The new programmes will have the credit system, multiple entry and exit options, and an academic bank of credits, the release said.

The minister said that teachers and administrators must have a clear understanding of these changes, and the special training programme is being organised for this purpose.
