Reactor blast at Sigachi Industries in Telangana’s Pashamylaram has claimed the lives of at least 10 workers, with several others injured

HYDERABAD: At least 10 workers died and several others sustained injuries in a massive reactor blast at Sigachi Industries Pvt Ltd in Telangana’s Pashamylaram on Monday morning.Fire department officials have said that so far, five bodies have been recovered from the rubble after the industrial structure collapsed due to the powerful explosion.According to officials, a fire alert was received at 9.37am, prompting the deployment of 11 fire engines from various stations, including Patancheru, Sangareddy, Kukatpally, Madhapur, Jeedimetla, and Rajendranagar. Additionally, two fire robots, disaster response force units, and rescue teams were mobilised to tackle the blaze. Fire department personnel are continuing efforts to contain the fire.The industrial areas surrounding Sangareddy and Pashamylaram have a history of reactor incidents. In a previous blast at a pharma plant in Sangareddy, six people lost their lives and 14 were injured. Similarly, three workers died in a chemical reactor explosion in Pashamylaram in 2023.Chief minister Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the tragic incident and directed officials to take all necessary steps to rescue any workers still trapped. He also ordered that the injured be given the best possible medical treatment.Meanwhile, state health minister Damodar Raja Narasimha has directed the Sangareddy district administration to extend medical support to those injured in the blast. He has also instructed the collector to implement immediate relief measures at the explosion site.
