Pune: The traffic police have identified 26 critical waterlogging-prone locations across the city where even moderate rainfall often leads to severe traffic congestion. The department has shared the list with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for preventive action.Among the prominent waterlogging hotspots identified are Shahir Amar Shaikh Chowk, Fatimanagar, Bhairobanala Chowk, Radha Hotel Chowk in Baner, North Main Road in Mundhwa, Tadigutta Chowk, Seven Loves Chowk, the stretch beneath Ruby Hall Metro station, Gunjan Talkies, Rajaram Bridge and several other locations across the city.Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Sandip Bhajibhakare told TOI, “The identified locations have been classified into A+, A, B+ and B categories, with the most critical spots falling under the A+ and A groups. This classification was done after analysing emergency calls received during the 2025 monsoon. After identifying locations where water accumulation hampers vehicular movement, we shared the details with PMC.”According to the officer, the classification is based on two key factors — the depth of water that accumulates on a road stretch and the volume of traffic using that route. “Several of these locations were susceptible to flooding because of the presence of sewage chambers, natural streams running adjacent to roads or water channels passing beneath bridges. When water accumulates on roads and fills potholes, traffic movement becomes chaotic. Our objective is to reduce traffic disruptions during the monsoon,” he said. The traffic police have also requested PMC to ensure the timely deployment of portable water pumps and mud pumps to drain out water from affected roads during and after heavy rainfall.
