Remains of the Kolkata-Puri bus after the collision

Balasore: Four people were seriously injured after a tourist bus carrying around 70 pilgrims from Kolkata to Puri lost control and rammed into two cars near Markona market under Simulia police station limits in Balasore district early Wednesday morning.Sources said the bus was travelling towards Puri when it suddenly went out of control near the electricity office at Markona on National Highway 16. The bus first hit a SUV and then collided with another car, leaving four occupants of the vehicles injured.The injured were rescued and immediately shifted to Simulia community health centre for treatment. Some pilgrims travelling in the bus also reportedly sustained minor injuries.The front portion of the bus was damaged in the collision, while the rear sections of both cars were severely damaged. Despite the impact, all pilgrims aboard the bus narrowly escaped in what could have been a major tragedy.Following the accident, traffic movement on the busy highway was disrupted for some time. Simulia police reached the spot, controlled the situation and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash. kisansahu@gmail.com
