Srinagar, Jun 18: Tourism stakeholders across Kashmir have announced discounts ranging from 50 to 65 per cent on hotel accommodation, travel packages and taxi services during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra to boost pilgrim arrivals.
The initiative has been jointly rolled out by leading tourism bodies, including the Jammu and Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (JKHARA) and the J&K Hoteliers Club. Stakeholders said the move is aimed at making pilgrimage travel more affordable while restoring confidence among visitors planning to travel to the Valley.
JKHARA General Secretary Tariq Ghani said the tourism industry has collectively decided to reduce costs for pilgrims and tourists during the Yatra period. “These discounts reflect our commitment towards pilgrims and tourism revival. We want visitors to feel welcome and make their journey more affordable,” he said.
Under the offer, several hotels, guest houses, tour operators and taxi associations have agreed to offer reduced rates. Industry representatives believe the decision will encourage more registrations and improve tourist footfall during the pilgrimage season.
A hotel owner in Srinagar said lower room tariffs are already attracting inquiries from different parts of the country. “Many families were hesitant because of expenses. The discounted rates are helping them plan their trip with greater confidence,” he said.
Taxi operators have also joined the initiative.
Ghulam Nabi, a driver associated with a tourist taxi union, said transporters understand the importance of supporting the tourism sector during challenging times. “If more pilgrims visit Kashmir, everyone benefits. We may earn slightly less per trip, but higher passenger numbers can compensate for that,” he said.
Another driver, Mohammad Yousuf from Anantnag, said the discounts are a gesture of goodwill. “Pilgrims should feel that Kashmir welcomes them. We are ready to provide safe and affordable transport services throughout the Yatra,” he added.
Officials welcomed the industry’s decision and reiterated that extensive security arrangements have been put in place along the pilgrimage routes. Increased patrolling, strengthened checkpoints and improved coordination among security agencies are expected to ensure a safe Yatra.
Traders and small business owners along the Yatra route have expressed optimism that increased pilgrim movement will help revive local businesses. Tourism stakeholders hope the combined impact of discounted services, enhanced security and public outreach will help restore confidence and strengthen Kashmir’s tourism economy in the months ahead.
