Patna: The Rs 49.87-crore redevelopment of Rajgir’s Brahmkund has achieved 32% progress, with the tourism department targeting completion of the project by Sep next year. The redevelopment aims to equip the historic religious site with modern visitor facilities and improved infrastructure.The tourism department’s integrated redevelopment of Brahmkund will transform the popular hot spring complex into a world-class religious tourism hub while preserving its cultural and spiritual significance. The redevelopment plan includes construction of a grand entry gate, public plaza, widened pathways, food court, cafeteria, open-air amphitheatre, watch tower, theme gateway plaza, tourist facilitation centre, parking facilities, toilet blocks and landscaped gardens.According to the tourism department, work on various components is progressing at different stages. The tourist facilitation centre is nearly 85% complete, while work on the public plaza, redevelopment of the old boundary wall and pond, watch tower and theme gateway plaza is also underway.Known for its natural hot springs and religious significance, Brahmkund attracts lakhs of devotees and tourists every year. The site is associated with centuries-old traditions and is considered an important part of Bihar’s cultural and spiritual heritage.Officials said the upgraded infrastructure is expected to improve the visitor experience, increase tourist footfall and generate employment opportunities for local residents.The department said the project is aimed not only at improving facilities but also at aligning Rajgir’s religious and historical heritage with future tourism requirements.The Brahmkund redevelopment is part of the state’s broader efforts to promote Rajgir as a major religious and tourism destination. Over the past few years, the town has witnessed several tourism-focused projects, including the International Convention Centre, Nature Safari, Glass Bridge and Sports Complex.
