Zambia’s Paris Olympics 400m bronze medallist Muzala Samukonga and Nigeria’s Commonwealth Games shot put champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will be among the elite international athletes to be seen in action at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet at the Kalinga Stadium here on August 22, according to information shared at a build-up event here on Monday.
Samukonga is currently ranked sixth in the world, while Enekwechi is placed 10th. A field of 188 athletes from 28 nations will have 36 top-50 competitors.
“The presence of so many top athletes will deliver high quality competition,” said Athletics Federation of India (AFI) spokesperson Adille Sumariwalla.
Double CWG silver medallist long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, two-time Asian Games men’s shot put champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor, men’s 200m National Record holder Animesh Kujur and javelin thrower Rohit Yadav will be among the prominent names from the home contingent featuring 88 athletes.
