CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) has granted a blanket four-month extension for registration and completion of real estate projects affected by the prevailing West Asia conflict.In a circular dated Aug 10, TNRERA said projects whose completion date, revised completion date or extended completion date falls on or after Feb 28, 2026, would get the extension.The authority has treated the prevailing West Asia situation as a “war” for invoking the force majeure provision under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.The extension will be available without developers having to submit separate applications or pay any fee for the additional period.

The decision follows an advisory issued by the Union housing and urban affairs ministry on July 31, which advised real estate regulatory authorities to consider granting extensions to affected registered projects.The move is expected to provide additional time to developers whose projects have faced delays linked to disruptions arising from the West Asia situation.“We also request the Tamil Nadu govt to take necessary steps to avoid delays in the TNRERA registration process and ensure a faster and more efficient approval mechanism,” said S Ramprabhu, chairman of the DTCP committee at the Builders Association of India.
