Chennai: Tamilnadu Petroproducts has announced a temporary shutdown of its Heavy Chemicals Division (HCD) plant, citing business disruptions linked to the ongoing geopolitical situation in the West Asia region. In a regulatory filing on Tuesday, the company said the shutdown, effective immediately, has been necessitated by factors beyond its control and qualifies as a force majeure event. The company added that it is currently unable to assess the financial impact of the disruption but is taking steps to resume operations at the earliest. Any material developments will be communicated to the stock exchanges, it said. The latest development follows an earlier disruption at the company’s Propylene Oxide (PO) plant at its Manali facility. The company had previously informed that supplies of propylene—a key raw material—were halted after the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas directed refineries and oil marketing companies to suspend supplies of crude-based petroleum products to downstream industries and prioritise their use for LPG production. As a result, operations at the PO plant were temporarily affected, with the company similarly invoking force majeure and stating that the impact could not be quantified.
