Silchar: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Jadavpur MP Sayani Ghosh on Thursday launched a sharp attack on BJP while campaigning in Cachar district, asserting that her party would expand its footprint in the state.Addressing election rallies in Udharbond and Sonai constituencies, Ghosh expressed confidence that Mamata Banerjee would return to power in West Bengal for a fourth consecutive term and go on to become the Prime Minister in the future.Taking on BJP’s central leadership, including Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, Ghosh said TMC knew “how to keep them in check,” asserting that her party stood firmly against what she termed “divisive politics”.In the 294-member West Bengal assembly, BJP currently holds 64 seats, while the TMC has 219.Claiming that TMC respects all religions, Ghosh said her party does not indulge in politics based on religion or caste, but focuses on livelihood issues. “BJP does not think about farmers, labourers or women. It only serves its own interests,” she alleged.Questioning the BJP-led govt at the Centre, she asked what happened to the assurance of generating two crore jobs annually. She also took a swipe at Modi, calling him a “campaign minister” rather than the Prime Minister.Alleging a “secret understanding” between BJP and Congress, Ghosh referred to remarks by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming it indicated tacit coordination between the two parties.Pitching her party as an alternative in Assam, Ghosh said if people support TMC, the party would ensure equal respect for Bengali Hindus and Muslims in the state. She promised better access to jobs, healthcare and education at a local-level, reducing the need for people to travel to Bengal.
