COIMBATORE: A court in Tirupur has sentenced two Bangladeshi nationals to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each for staying in India illegally without valid documents.The convicts have been identified as Mohammed Motiur Rahman, 37, and Anjona Akjter, 37. According to police sources, a team from the Nallur police station in Tirupur conducted checks near K Chettipalayam on Feb 12, 2025. During the drive, police intercepted two men who behaved suspiciously.Upon interrogation, the duo confessed that they had crossed to India from Bangladesh and were working in Tirupur without any legal immigration documents or passports. The police arrested the duo — Mohammed Motiur Rahman and Anjona Akhter — and got them remanded in judicial custody.Following a complete investigation, police filed a chargesheet and presented prosecution witnesses before the court. On Wednesday, judge B Kanagaraj of the II additional district and sessions court found the duo guilty and pronounced the sentence. Public prosecutor Prabakaran represented the state during the proceedings in the case.
