Bhubaneswar: A video reportedly taken by a visitor showed a tiger at Nandankanan zoological park hunting a deer inside the enclosure. Zoo authorities have begun a probe given that a live animal is not served as food to predators.“We have found a video from a visitor, who had gone on a safari inside the zoo in a safari bus some days back. The video has been taken from inside the bus. It is clear from the video that the tiger is dragging a deer. But we are not sure if the tiger killed it and ate its meat. We are looking for the animal carcass to be sure that it had been killed,” zoo deputy director Pradeep Mirase said.According to Central Zoo Authority (CZA) manual, a live animal is not given as food within a captivity setup. “We provide meat and chicken to the tigers in the enclosure from the feeding chamber. However, although it is unusual to have a live prey in an enclosure, it has happened before in the zoo,” the officer added.
