Patna: With the southwest monsoon beginning to withdraw from parts of Bihar, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna, has forecast thunderstorms and lightning in the state till Oct 9.According to the latest warning, thunderstorm and lightning activity is expected on Oct 7, 8 and 9, with no warning issued from Oct 10.IMD Patna meteorologist Kumar Gaurav said a western disturbance persists as a trough in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies. Another trough extends from southeast Uttar Pradesh through Jharkhand, southern Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha to the north Bay of Bengal.A further trough extends from north sub-Himalayan West Bengal to central Maharashtra through Bihar, Jharkhand, Vidarbha and Marathwada. These systems are triggering rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the state. Katihar, Purnia, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Kaimur, Buxar and Aurangabad are among districts under the IMD’s yellow warning.The monsoon withdrawal line has advanced to Supaul, indicating its retreat from parts of Bihar, Gaurav added.
