Ghaziabad: A three-year-old boy died after falling from an unguarded wall cut-out meant for a window air conditioner in a 17th-floor flat at City Apartment in Aditya World City on Sunday. The child, Teerth Goyal, was playing on the bedroom floor when he reached the opening and fell, police said. His father Rakesh Kumar Goyal is a businessman and the family lives on rent in the Tower K flat.SHO of Wave City police station Shailendra Singh said staff at Manipal Hospital informed them about the accident at 8.30pm. The hospital told the cops that the incident occurred around 6.30pm. By the time the cops reached the hospital, Teerth had been declared dead.A preliminary investigation found that a mechanic had come to the flat a few hours earlier to repair their AC. “He was unable to repair the unit at the flat. So he removed it and took it to his shop but the wall sleeve that lets the back of the AC into open air was unguarded,” Singh said. “The cut-out was very close to the bedroom floor. The child crawled through it and fell into the common area.”A security guard was the first person who spotted the child. He informed the child’s neighbour, who told Teerth’s parents about the accident. “They came down and took the child to Manipal Hospital where he succumbed to injuries,” SHO said. His parents have refused an autopsy and so far haven’t made any complaint in the matter. There have been incidents in the past where children have fallen to their deaths from highrises. In 2020, a five-year-old boy, Tehas, fell to his death from the balcony of a 14th-floor flat of a highrise society in Raj Nagar Extension. He died on the spot. At the time of the incident, the boy was alone in the house.
