Varanasi: A three-time corporator from Madhyameshwar ward and Samajwadi Party functionary Bhaiya Lal Yadav was arrested in a case of alleged sexual harassment on Saturday. A large number of SP leaders gathered at Chetganj police station, reportedly seeking his release and putting pressure on the police.Chetganj inspector Vijay Kumar Shukla said a 25-year-old widow had lodged a complaint alleging that 56-year-old Yadav, a resident of Bhoot Bhairav area under Kotwali police station, had been frequently harassing her. Taking note of her complaint, police registered a case under Section 78(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the investigation was assigned to sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar Singh.The complainant alleged that Yadav also threatened that he would commit suicide if she refused to speak to him.Shukla said that during the investigation, his team questioned both the complainant and the accused. During questioning, he said, the accused allegedly became aggressive over the registration of the case. Police personnel tried to pacify and counsel him, but he did not calm down.Yadav was arrested under Section 170 of the BNSS from Kabir Chaura and brought to the police station, where further legal proceedings are underway.
