Chennai: A history-sheeter, his wife, and an accomplice were arrested by the Sholinganallur police on Tuesday for luring a 48-year-old tahsildar through a dating app and robbing him of gold jewellery and cash. Police identified the accused as ‘High Court’ Maharaja, 32, Priyadharshini, 20, and their accomplice, Dhanalakshmi, 45.According to police, Priyadharshini befriended the tahsildar from Tiruvallur and asked to meet him. The tahsildar arrived at the meeting spot wearing 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery. He was also carrying a few ornaments in his bag. Maharaja took photographs of the two and later threatened to leak them. Panicked, the tahsildar handed over his jewellery and cash to the trio and left. Based on his complaint, police registered a case. The trio were later arrested. Police said Maharaja has a murder case pending against him in Tuticorin. He faces several criminal charges, including robbery, murder, attempted murder, human trafficking, and extortion. He was in the news after the wife of a Gujarat-based IAS officer, with whom he eloped, died by suicide in Ahmedabad in July 2024. Maharaja was also accused of killing his girlfriend, Muthumari, in 2018.
