Udupi: Shirva police have arrested three persons for allegedly cheating a fuel station by filling diesel worth Rs 4,711 and fleeing without making the payment. The accused were traced to Bengaluru, where police also seized the car used in the offence.The arrested accused are Mohammed Riyaz, 26, Mohammed Afraz,23, from Kaup taluk and Ashil,21, from Ambagilu, Udupi. Police seized the car allegedly used in the offence and arrested all three accused. They will be produced before the court. Police said the accused will be further interrogated to ascertain whether they were involved in similar offences elsewhere, and further investigation is on.According to police, the incident occurred at 9.10pm on June 27 at a fuel bunk in Subhash Nagar, Kurkalu village, Karkala taluk. Ashish, 27, of Mangaluru, who manages the fuel station, lodged the complaint.Police said three men arrived at the fuel station in a compact SUV. One of the occupants seated in the rear asked fuel station employee Shashank to fill the vehicle’s tank with diesel. After refuelling, Shashank asked the occupants to make payment of Rs 4,711 by scanning the fuel station’s QR code. The accused scanned the QR code and asked him to generate the bill. While Shashank was printing the bill, they allegedly drove away without making the payment, thereby cheating the fuel station.A case was registered at Shirva police station under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the BNS.
