Pune: The economic offences wing (EOW) of Pune police is investigating a case against three people for allegedly cheating a city-based cellphone showroom owner (42) of Rs 5.53 crore between April 2024 and Jan.An FIR was registered by the showroom owner, a resident of Sangvi, with the Shivajinagar police station on Friday.An EOW officer said, “The suspects claimed to be wholesalers of a prominent smartphone company and said they were based in Mumbai. They contacted the victim after studying his business.”“After discussing the terms and conditions, the victim and the suspects entered into an agreement. The suspects promised to supply cellphones and accessories worth Rs 5.53 crore to the showroom owner,” police said.“The victim transferred money to them via e-banking and issued cheques. However, the suspects allegedly used the money for personal purposes and failed to deliver the cellphones within the agreed timeframe, the police said.“Since Nov last year, the shopkeeper has been contacting the suspects, asking for a refund, but they have neither delivered the phones nor returned the money,” police added.
