Mangaluru: Bantwal Rural police arrested three persons for allegedly attempting to transport MDMA and ganja in a car.Police said the arrested are Nasheer Hussain,37, a resident of Adyar, Mohammed Junaid,38, of Golthamajalu in Bantwal taluk and Mohammed Afridi,24, of Kankanady in the city.Police seized MDMA, ganja, a car allegedly used for transporting drugs and five mobile phones. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 4.9 lakh.A team led by Bantwal subdivision assistant superintendent of police Yash Kumar Sharma conducted a raid at Kavalapaduru in the Bantwal Rural police station limits on Wednesday based on a tip-off. The police team seized 22.6g of MDMA valued around Rs 2.3 lakh, along with 30.3g of ganja, a car and mobile phones.Bantwal Rural police have registered a case under Section 8(c) read with Section 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.Bantwal Rural police inspector Anantha Padmanabha KV, PSI Ranna Gowda S Patil, PSIs Shivaram and Fakirappa, along with police personnel Uday Rai, Radhakrishna K, Praveen Rai, Prashanth, Lokesh, Vivek Rai, Kumar, Basavaraj, Sridhar and Dhanyashree were part of the police team.Arrested after 18 yearsVenoor police arrested a 46-year-old fugitive on Thursday in connection with a 2008 theft case, following his repeated failure to appear before the court.Venoor police had registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Mohammed Shareef,46. Since the accused failed to appear for the trial, a warrant was issued against him. Venoor police station ASI Bennichan, police constable Basavaraj and Praveen M from the Belthangady subdivision office arrested the accused. The Belthangady court remanded him in judicial custody.
