Bengaluru: A 45-year-old thief was arrested on charges of stealing gold and silver ornaments from children at marriage halls and public gatherings, and also lifting vehicles. Police recovered 132 grams of gold ornaments, seven mobile phones, two laptops, two cars, four two-wheelers and Rs 1.2 lakh in cash from him. The stolen booty is worth Rs 42 lakh.Police said Babu alias Pulsar Babu is linked to over 19 theft cases across multiple police stations. The Channapatna native was caught red-handed while attempting a theft at a function in Palace Grounds on March 7.A police officer said Babu would dress well and visit convention halls. He’d approach children below 12-13 years, gain their trust and then steal their ornaments.An Electronics City resident said his daughter’s gold-plated silver chain and gold pendant worth around Rs 70,000 were stolen at Palace Grounds on May 9, 2025, while she was playing on the premises of Princess Golf Convention Hall. As the CCTV camera was not functioning, the suspect was not captured and the case remained unsolved. Babu has now confessed to committing the theft.
