Noida: A 22-year-old man was arrested on Friday after trying to flee a fuel station without paying for diesel and then dragging a motorcycle for more than 5km after it became lodged in the bumper of his Thar during the escape bid.The accused, Harsh, a resident of Bulandshahr, had come to his uncle’s house in Dujana village. According to RK Gautam, additional DCP (Central Noida), Harsh reached a fuel station near the NTPC cut in Badalpur around 6.30pm, driving a Thar without a number plate.“He asked the salesperson, Kuldeep Sharma, to fill the tank and said he would make an online payment. But after the tank was full and Kuldeep went to get the POS machine, Harsh started the vehicle and fled,” Gautam said.Sharma got on his motorcycle and chased the Thar. On Dadri bypass, when Sharma tried to stop the vehicle, Harsh did not halt. During the attempt, his motorcycle collided with the Thar and he skidded off, falling onto the road at a distance. The motorcycle, however, got stuck in the bumper of the SUV. The Thar continued moving, dragging it for about 5km, with sparks seen along the way.Sharma was admitted to a private hospital. Police said his condition was stable and treatment was underway.A police team cordoned off the area after receiving information and arrested Harsh about an hour after the incident. The Thar was seized, and police said they were checking CCTV footage from the fuel station.Based on Sharma’s complaint, an FIR was registered at Badalpur police station under BNS sections 109 (attempt to murder), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage of Rs 50) against Harsh.
