Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has launched a renewed drive to improve diesel efficiency and reduce operational expenditure through better maintenance practices and responsible fuel management, amid rising global fuel prices that are placing increasing pressure on public transport operations.Addressing a Diesel Management Awareness Seminar organised by Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) at Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad, TGSRTC vice-chairman and managing director Y Nagi Reddy said the continued rise in diesel prices due to prevailing international conditions was having a significant impact on the corporation’s finances. He stressed that regulating fuel consumption and preventing wastage were essential to overcoming the growing financial burden.Nagi Reddy also called upon employees at all levels to prioritise fuel conservation and make extensive use of technology at the depot level to enhance operational efficiency. He directed officials and technical staff to focus on vehicle fitness, adopt best maintenance practices and ensure the timely upkeep of buses to maximise mileage.Stating that fuel conservation should not be viewed merely as an official responsibility, Nagi Reddy said every employee had a social responsibility to save diesel. Efficient fuel usage, he noted, would not only help strengthen the corporation financially but also contribute to environmental protection.During the seminar, experts briefed staff on scientific diesel management practices, precautions required for maintaining ground fuel tanks at depots, and methods to improve buses’ kilometre-per-litre (KMPL) performance. They also explained ways to identify and rectify technical faults in garages at an early stage to prevent fuel loss and improve efficiency.
