Hyderabad: On the instructions of director-general of police (DGP) CV Anand, Khammam police have transferred two major cybercrime cases involving procurement of mule banking accounts, using which cyber fraudsters operating from abroad had funnelled over Rs 1,000 crore, to TGCSB for thorough investigation. Khammam police have already arrested over 20 people, including main accused Potru Praveen and Udathaneni Vikas Chowdary. The first case was registered at the VM Banjara police station (PS) in Khammam, where the complainant, an unemployed graduate, alleged that Potru Praveen, a native of Khammam, and associates lured him with false job promises between 2022-24 and induced him to open accounts at HDFC and South Indian Bank. “The bank accounts were opened on the pretext of setting up IT firms and a private venture, Extrika Solutions. The bank accounts were used to route cybercrime proceeds,” the complainant alleged. TGCSB re-registered the case on July 14 against Potru Praveen and 22 others. In the second case, registered at the Sathupally PS in Khammam, the complainant, a businessman from Khammam, alleged that Udathaneni Vikash Chowdary and his wife Boppana Naga Priya persuaded him in 2021 to open current accounts at ICICI and HDFC for an interior decoration business. In 2025, Vikash’s associate, Charan, convinced him to open another current account for payment gateway business. The complainant alleged that he realised that the accused used the bank accounts for fraudulent activities. TGCSB re-registered the case against Vikash and 24 others.Khammam police had already arrested over 50 accused in both cases, including Praveen and Vikash. As the Khammam police probe revealed that over Rs 1,000 crore was routed through the mule bank accounts of the two complainants and several other bank accounts obtained in a similar way from the locals by the accused, DGP CV Anand directed TGCSB to take over the probe in the two cases. Accordingly, TGCSB re-registered those cases under relevant sections of the IT Act and the BNS. A special team of TGCSB would conduct investigation.
