Surat: The city’s textile markets will remain open on Sundays until Diwali, as traders move to handle rising festive demand, clear pending orders and accommodate buyers travelling to the city ahead of Navratri and Diwali.The Federation of Surat Trade and Textile Associations (FOSTTA) announced the decision after appeals from trade participants who sought more business days to manage increasing order volumes.The move aims to ensure smooth market operations as textile manufacturers and traders prepare for one of the busiest periods of the year.Manufacturing units in and around Surat are dispatching large quantities of finished textile products every day. Markets are receiving a steady flow of parcels, many of which are routed through transport networks to destinations across the country.“Keeping the markets open will give traders enough time to transport material. Ahead of the festive season traders from other cities can visit and check products on Sundays as well,” said Dinesh Katariya, secretary of FOSTTA.Industry representatives said the additional working day would help ease pressure on traders and logistics operators while supporting uninterrupted supply during the peak festive season.The increase in goods movement is already visible. On Monday alone, around 200 truckloads of textile products were dispatched from Surat to various destinations, reflecting higher procurement activity by wholesalers and retailers.Traders expect the extended schedule to improve delivery timelines and facilitate timely execution of orders. The decision is also expected to benefit buyers visiting from other cities, many of whom have limited time on weekdays to complete purchases.With demand continuing to build ahead of Navratri and Diwali, industry participants anticipate sustained growth in trading and dispatch activity over the coming weeks.
