Salem: The textile industry has seen no growth over the past four years, largely due to rising yarn prices and intense global competition, according to Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry president (Salem Chapter) V Ganesan.Speaking at an awareness programme in Salem on Saturday ahead of the upcoming International Textile Machinery Exhibition (ITME 2026), Ganesan said Tamil Nadu’s textile sector has been hit hard, with several companies forced to shut down.“Countries like China and Pakistan are supplying more yarn at competitive rates. The weakened situation needs urgent improvement. This international exhibition will help India recover from the decline and reach its peak again,” he said.The ITME Society has announced that the 12th edition of the International Textile Machinery Exhibition will be held in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, from Dec 4 to 9. Treasurer Senthil Kumar told reporters that the event aims at promoting innovation, global competitiveness and international textile production.Organisers expect participation from 1,800 companies representing 95 countries, with more than 1.5 lakh visitors anticipated. Spread across 2.40 lakh square feet, the exhibition will serve as a global platform for textile machinery and engineering technology.General secretary Sampath Kumar and several textile manufacturers attended the Salem programme.(No photo)
