Hyderabad: Telangana, one of the largest producers of high-quality cotton in the country, is set to emerge as the textile capital of South Asia by 2047, with the govt working towards building an end-to-end textile ecosystem, from cotton cultivation to global fashion markets in London, New York, Paris, Milan, Tokyo and Dubai, said chief minister A Revanth Reddy here on Friday.Pointing to Telangana’s success in producing vaccines and medicines for the world, he said the state has also become a global manufacturing hub for Apple AirPods and aims to replicate this success in manufacturing fashion wear for the world.Inaugurating the 13th Asian Textile Conference (ATEXCON) 2026, organised under the theme ‘Reimagining the Future of Global Textiles’ by the Telangana govt and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, Revanth Reddy said Hyderabad is already a major film production destination, not just for India but for the world, with Netflix recently opening its Eyeline Studios in the city.“We have Tollywood and Bollywood using Hyderabad as a base — and now Hollywood has made its debut. We will encourage the film industry to source its fashion needs from us,” he said, adding that Telangana could offer investors strong infrastructure, land, power, water, incentives and speedy execution to achieve its global ambitions. The CM said Telangana has both the “skill and will” to emerge as a leading global textiles destination. “We have established Kakatiya Mega Textile Park at Warangal, along with several apparel parks. We are leaders in many verticals, from deep-tech to pharma and life sciences, from aerospace to defence, from manufacturing to energy,” he said, linking the govt’s textile sector push to the broader Telangana Rising vision, which targets a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and $3 trillion by 2047.He added that the govt aims to create green textile hubs while also focusing on skilling youth, especially women, to combine traditional knowledge with modern tools in designing, cutting and stitching. Pointing out that textiles are deeply rooted in Telangana’s identity, he cited unique textiles such as Pochampally Ikat, Gadwal sarees, Warangal durries and Narayanpet weaves, describing the sector as a lifeline for weaving communities.IT & industries minister D Sridhar Babu said Telangana would combine tradition with technologies such as AI, blockchain, and IoT to build a globally competitive and transparent textile ecosystem. “By integrating technology with the traditional charkha, we aim to take the ‘Made in Telangana’ brand to global prominence by initiating a renewed vision — a ‘New Swadeshi’ for a new era,” he said.
