Jaisalmer: A man from Telangana was detained Wednesday illegally attempting to cross India-Pakistan border in the Pochhina area in Jaisalmer, allegedly trying reach Dubai via Pakistan. The accused was identified as Ashfaq Hussain (38).Myajlar Police Station SHO Sajjan Singh said that a bus driver spotted Hussain in the restricted area and handed him over to the Border Security Force (BSF). After preliminary interrogation, the BSF handed him over to Myajlar police, and the Joint Interrogation Committee (JIC) began interrogating the matter Thursday. Singh said that Ashfaq told agencies that after the death of his parents, he sold his properties in Telangana and went to Dubai in 2012, where he said he lived in Dubai from 2012 to 2017. He then claimed that he had invested Rs 25 lakh rupees in a hotel business with Rajesh Chaudhary, a resident of Rajasthan, with the help of Sajid from Bihar and Naseer, a Dubai-based associate. However, the money was never returned to him and Rajesh later disappeared.Hussain claimed that he received information that Rajesh was currently living in the Sam area of Jaisalmer and came there looking for him. Failing to find him, he boarded a bus and reached the border areas. However, officials said that Hussain constantly kept changing him statements during the interrogation is deepening the mystery around his presence in the border area. He had also claimed that he mistakenly reached near the border while travelling on a bus.Police said agencies were investigating his foreign travel records and contacts. He has been taken into custody for entering a restricted area, and his mobile data, call records, and Dubai connections are under scrutiny to verify his claims. A valid passport with a Dubai visa was found in his possession, though no mobile phone was recovered. Officials said legal action will follow after the Joint Interrogation Committee (JIC) completes its investigation.
