Hyderabad: Telangana governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Friday said he will support all good initiatives of the state govt and would point out mistakes if any, and called upon the students, parents, people, officials and other sections of the society for a united fight to make Telangana a drug-free state.Speaking after distributing the ‘Young India Student Welcome Kits’ and administering an anti-drug pledge to the students at the L.B. stadium here, the governor, while referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a drug-free India, said Telangana should transform the campaign into a people’s movement by making homes, villages and panchayats free from drugs.He called upon parents to remain vigilant about changes in their children’s behaviour and also encouraged students to stay away from bad influences and report drug-related issues without fear. “Telangana can set an example for the nation by ensuring that every school is safe, every child is educated and every youth remains healthy, energetic and drug-free,” he said.Stating that students are not only the asset of the present but also the future of India, he lauded the state govt’s initiative of providing student kits, noting that day scholars are being given kits worth about ₹1,500 while residential students are being provided kits worth nearly ₹3,000 containing books, uniforms and other essential educational materials.Governor Shukla termed the initiative as more than a welfare programme and said it reflects the vision of ensuring equal opportunities, self-confidence and quality education for every child.
