New Delhi: Former member of Parliament and K Chandrasekhara Rao’s estranged daughter Kavitha Kalvakuntla announced the launch of her political party Sarvodaya Telangana in Nizamabad on Friday.

Kavitha announced she would formally launch the party on April 25 at Medchal, which is about 150 kilometres from Hyderabad. Speaking at the office of Telangana Jagruthi, her non profit organisation, Kavitha said, “It has been 12 years since the formation of the state, we still haven’t been able to secure the ‘Neellu, Nidhulu, Niyamakalu’ (Water, Funds and Jobs) promise that we fought for. From farmers to industrialists, from the youth to the elderly, from SCs and STs to backward classes, from Sikhs to Muslims to Christians to other minority communities — the list is endless. Every single section of the society is suffering and successive governments have failed to cater to the needs and aspirations of the people of Telangana. Women continue to suffer due to the lack of representation and targeted solutions to their problems. All of these sections are being treated as mere vote banks.”

Pitching herself as a “Telangana Adabidda” (Daughter of Telangana), Kavitha said, “We have seen enough parties led by men. I firmly believe there is a need for a new and inclusive political force led by a woman to achieve ‘Sarvodaya Telangana’.”
