MANGALURU: A Class 10 student died after suddenly collapsing while playing volleyball with friends near Surathkal on Wednesday.The deceased has been identified as Likhith Amin, 15, son of an autorickshaw driver from Surathkal.He was a student at Government High School, Kote Bollaru, Soorinje.Following the death of Amit, the health department plans to seek help from the medical education department to find the cause and solutions.Minister for Health and Family welfare UT Khader, said, “It is a very painful matter that today, a 10th-grade student collapsed while playing on his school playground and lost his life. We express our deepest condolences to his family. For some years now, we have been seeing young people, healthy individuals, and now even school students collapsing suddenly and losing their lives like this, which is a matter of grave concern for all of us as to why this is happening.”Investigations have already been conducted in some previous cases, he noted.“In the coming days, I intend to speak with the Medical Education Minister, consult with our senior heart specialists, and discuss what the actual underlying cause is. Different reasons are cited at different times, but we want to thoroughly analyze what the root cause is,” he said.In response to a query whether medical checkups should be mandatory for young children, the minister said, “the state already has the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) school team programme in place, which I myself initiated in 2013 when I was minister.”“Under this programme, every year, a health team in every district goes to government schools, checks every student’s complete health parameters, and if any abnormality is detected, they inform the parents and arrange free medical treatment or operations through the government. However, they visit only once a year. Why these sudden occurrences happen and why we are losing young lives is something we are deeply concerned about.,” he added.
