Balangir: A 14-year-old boy was found hanging from a tree near his house in Odisha’s Balangir district on Monday. The family members of deceased Devendra Banchhor, a Class X student, said he had been upset after his request for Rs 300 to recharge his mobile phone was turned down.A resident of Kuliadara village under Kantabanji area, Devendra’s father is a farmer, and the family is financially distressed, police said.According to the family’s account to police, after the teenager was found hanging, he was rushed to Kantabanji hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After receiving information from the hospital, police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem, which attributed the death to hanging. “An unnatural death case has been registered, and an investigation is underway,” said Gopal Chandra Karan, inspector in charge of Kantabanji police station.Police said they are examining all circumstances surrounding the death and have recorded statements from the family members and others known to the boy. Investigators are awaiting further postmortem findings to establish the sequence of events.
