Prayagraj: A 17-year-old boy died after allegedly coming in contact with a live electric pole during a Muharram procession in Kotwali area of Prayagraj on Friday morning. The deceased identified as Mohammad Hamza, a resident of Bahadurganj was participating in the procession along with a large number of mourners when the accident took place.According to eyewitnesses, the weather changed abruptly and heavy rain began as the procession reached Sevei Mandi. The procession went on amid the downpour. Hamza came in contact with an electric pole along the route and suffered severe electric burns. He was immediately taken to Colvin Hospital for treatment. However, as his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital, where he was declared dead after examination.Kotwali Station House Officer Nitendra Shukla confirmed that the youth died due to electrocution. He said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further action will be taken after the report is received.
