Patna: A 15-year-old boy drowned in the Ganga, while two of his friends went missing after attempting to rescue him at Adilpur Ghat under Khusrupur police station area in Patna on Sunday morning. The body of Ankush Kumar was later recovered from the river, while search operations continued for Raunak Kumar (16) and Sundaram Kumar (15).The incident occurred around 9.30am when the three teenagers from Jagmal Bigha village had gone to the Ganga for a bath along with other youths.Khusrupur SHO Sanjeev Kumar Singh said Ankush ventured into deep water and started drowning. Raunak and Sundaram tried to save him but were also swept into deeper waters and went missing.Following the incident, local residents alerted the police, prompting a rescue operation. “Ankush’s body was recovered from the river. The SDRF team, along with local divers, is continuing the search for Raunak and Sundaram,” Singh said.The victims’ family members rushed to Adilpur Ghat after receiving information about the incident. The three boys were close friends and had recently been promoted to Class XI.Ankush was the son of Dharmendra Verma and the elder of two brothers. Raunak is the son of Rajiv Verma, while Sundaram is the son of Ratnesh Singh. Raunak and Sundaram are the only sons of their respective families.The SHO said a police team was dispatched to the spot immediately after the incident was reported. “The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after the post-mortem. There is still no trace of the other two boys, and the search operation is underway,” Singh added.
