Pune: Several teachers’ organisations across Maharashtra have announced a statewide school shutdown on July 9, 2026, against govt’s continued neglect of issues related to Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).Vijay Kombe, state president of the Maharashtra State Primary Teachers’ Forum, told TOI that the protest is against the govt’s continued neglect of issues relating to TET-induced service insecurity, denial of promotional opportunities, the staff approval (sanctioned staffing) policy, and the appointment of teachers as Booth Level Officers (BLOs).Teachers are expected to go on leave en masse and stage a protest in Mumbai.The protest has been jointly called by the Maharashtra State Primary Teachers’ Central Organisation, Teachers’ Coordination Committee, Maharashtra State Primary Teachers’ Committee, Maharashtra TET/CTET Qualified Teachers’ Action Committee, Maharashtra State Private School Teachers’ Organisation, Shikshanik Vyaspeeth, Headmasters’ Association, and many other organisations.As per Kombe, organisations served a notice to the govt on June 30 informing it of the proposed agitation.
