Thiruvananthapuram: Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) raised concerns over the long-pending issue of police custody, accident and scrap vehicles being left unattended in front of police stations across the state capital, urging authorities to take time-bound action for their removal.In a representation submitted to govt, TCCI highlighted that such vehicles, often dumped in open public spaces, are adversely affecting the city’s urban aesthetics. The chamber noted that the presence of these vehicles creates a poor impression, particularly in areas near key public institutions and tourist destinations. Apart from visual concerns, TCCI pointed out that abandoned vehicles pose multiple risks, including obstruction of roads and footpaths, public safety hazards, and environmental and health issues. Following the submission, govt referred the matter to city police commissioner, who in turn directed assistant commissioner of police, District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB), to examine the issue and initiate action. According to TCCI, the assistant commissioner’s office confirmed that steps have been initiated to clear and remove such vehicles. The chamber also submitted a detailed follow-up statement suggesting measures such as relocating these vehicles to designated storage areas in line with legal provisions. Police authorities have since informed that the issue has been reviewed at the field level and further action is in progress. While welcoming the prompt response, TCCI stressed the need for a structured and time-bound implementation plan to ensure a permanent solution to the problem.
