CHENNAI: The TVK govt in Tamil Nadu has renamed the chief minister’s breakfast scheme, launched by the previous DMK govt, after former CM K Kamaraj. The scheme will henceforth be called “Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Breakfast Scheme.” The change in the name of the breakfast scheme follows a few such changes. Recently, the TVK govt renamed Naan Mudhalvan Scheme as Skill Development Scheme. The name of the free bus travel scheme for women was changed from Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam to Mahalir Payanam.The TVK govt is considering changing the name of “Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam,” under which Rs 1,000 is given to women family heads per month, to “Mathippumigu Mahalir Thittam” (honourable women scheme). The breakfast scheme was originally launched for primary school students, from Class I to V. After TVK came to power, chief minister C Joseph Vijay announced that the scheme would be extended up to Class VIII starting on the Periyar birth anniversary (Sept 17).
