CHENNAI/COIMBATORE: Even as BJP’s national organization secretary B L Santhosh was holding a meeting with party seniors in Chennai to firm up the election plan, party cadres in Coimbatore blocked the EachanariChettipala yam road, unhappy with AIADMK’s decision not to allot Kinathukadavu constituency to them. The protesting cadres said they expected Kinathukadavu also to be allotted to BJP, since BJP had performed well in the segment. BJP leader K Vasantharajan, who was eyeing the seat, pacified the cadres, bringing the protest to an end.Coimbatore North was the only segment allotted by AIADMK to BJP in Coimbatore district: it is where BJP women’s wing national president Vanathi Srinivasan was touted as the candidate. In Avinashi segment, falling within the neighbouring Tirupur district, BJP is likely to field union minister L Murugan. While BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran has been finalized for Sattur, the party has shortlisted Pon Balaganapathy for Manamadurai, Puratchi Kavidasan for Gandarvakottai, Ananthan Ayyasamy for Vasudevanallur, Tamilisai Sounderarajan for Mylapore, Amar Prasad Reddy for Thalli, Bhojarajan for Ooty and Krithiga Sivakumar Modakurichi. Other candidates would be finalized and the official list would be released soon, said party sources. The party is also gearing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chennai as well as Puducherry on April 3. Though he would visit Coimbatore on April 3, it would be a brief stopover on his way to Palakkad for a campaign.
