Mysuru: Urban development and district minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Friday directed Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities to take action against commercial establishment owners for not having paid taxes for one-and-a-half decades.Speaking at a progress review meeting held here, the minister pointed out that some commercial shops have not paid property tax since 2011 and asked officials to issue notices and take action as per rules against those that have defaulted for more than two years.Meanwhile, he instructed that MCC and urban local bodies must actively encourage property owners to obtain e-khata for their properties and intensify the ongoing drive. “All properties under MCC must be mapped so that property tax can be collected accurately. Besides, rent revisions should be carried out regularly for markets and commercial shops under MCC limits, as this would help increase civic revenue,” he said.He said shops operating on footpaths are being cleared after identifying alternative market spaces, adding that small goods vendors in pedestrian areas should be provided with proper space. He instructed officials to consult respective MLAs in the areas under the corporation’s limits and identify zone-wise locations to plan commercial complexes, food streets and markets.Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait said the people who originally signed rental agreements and those currently doing business in those spaces are often different, and this must be corrected.Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda said the number of vehicles in Mysuru is rising and parking problems on roads are worsening. He called for multi-level parking facilities in every layout.
