Hyderabad: Telangana high court on Thursday initiated contempt proceedings against senior officials of IIM Mumbai for allegedly failing to comply with its earlier orders concerning the admission of a Hyderabad-based MBA aspirant.Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka issued notices to the institute’s director, Manoj Kumar Tiwari, and the chairperson of the board of governors, Shashi Kiran Shetty, directing them to file their responses by April 30. The court warned that failure to respond could result in ordering their personal appearance. It further clarified that any delay in submitting responses beyond the stipulated deadline would be entertained only upon payment of a fine of Rs 10,000. The matter has been posted for further hearing on April 30.The contempt petition was filed by Kataru Satya Sai, an MBA aspirant from Gundla Pochampally near Hyderabad, who had earlier approached the court in Feb challenging his exclusion from the shortlist for the 2026–28 MBA programme.During the hearing on April 2, the court directed its registry to issue show-cause notices, asking the institute’s top officials to explain why action should not be initiated against them under the Contempt of Courts Act for failing to comply with its directions.In his petition, Satya Sai alleged that the institute did not call him for the personal interview scheduled after the second week of Feb, in violation of its admission policy. He contended that, despite applying under the general category and securing a higher CAT 2025 score than some shortlisted candidates, he was denied an opportunity.He has sought directions to be declared eligible for shortlisting and to participate in the interview process. The high court had earlier granted interim relief and directed the institute’s officials to file their response.Alleging non-compliance with that order, the petitioner subsequently filed the present contempt plea.
