Mysuru: Mysuru Division of South Western Railway will expand its jurisdiction and revenue base from Oct 1, 2026, following a Railway Board decision to redraw its boundary with Palakkad Division of Southern Railway. The move is expected to bring an additional annual revenue of Rs 600-700 crore to Mysuru Division, largely from freight operations linked to New Mangalore Port (NMP).According to a Railway Board notification issued on Aug 21, the divisional and zonal boundary between Mysuru and Palakkad divisions has been fixed on the Shoranur-Mangaluru Central section. As a result, the interchange point between the two divisions will shift from Padil to Ullal.Under the revised arrangement, nearly 55km of railway track towards Mangaluru, along with stations, loading points and other railway assets, will come under the Mysuru division. Thokur will become the interchange point between Konkan Railway and the Mysuru division. The inclusion of NMP at Panambur under Mysuru the division’s jurisdiction is expected to provide the biggest financial gain. The port handles substantial freight traffic, a major share of which currently contributes to the revenue of the Palakkad division.Speaking to TOI, Mudit Mittal, divisional railway manager, Mysuru division, SWR, said: “Though revenue for railway remains the same, the pocket in which revenue used to go that pocket will change. However, SWR- Mysuru will get additional revenue of nearly Rs 600-800 crore.”SWR-Mys revenue set to go upMysuru division currently earns around Rs 1,400 crore annually. With the revised arrangement, its annual revenue will increase by more than 50%.Around seven to eight stations between Padil and Ullal are expected to come under the Mysuru division, apart from stations and loading points within the Panambur port area. Existing railway assets and staff will be taken over on an ‘as-is-where-is’ basis, with employees being given options as per rules.According to sources, Kerala govt is not happy with the revision of the division and is planning to meet railway authorities concerned and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the revised arrangement.
