Gorakhpur: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said sustained development and improved connectivity has transformed Gorakhpur and given it a new identity.Inaugurating the widened and strengthened Green City-Madhopur Bandha road, the CM said the govt was focused on improving roads, connectivity and civic infrastructure to make daily life easier for residents.Addressing a gathering near the sewage treatment plant in Netaji Subhash Chandra Nagar, Yogi said the area had been inhabited for years and had also developed several educational institutions. However, the narrow road had caused inconvenience to residents and restricted heavy-vehicle movement.The newly developed 1.8-km road, constructed at Rs 70 crore, is expected to ease traffic congestion and address the area’s longstanding waterlogging problem. The road branches off National Highway-24 and connects Green City and Patnia with Madhopur Bandha. Drains have been built on both sides to improve water drainage.Yogi said commuters travelling towards Varanasi, Lucknow, Nepal, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj and Balrampur would no longer need to pass through the city. The Rajghat-Habert Bandha-Madhopur embankment road is also being developed as a four-lane corridor, while a flyover has been proposed at Domingarh.Once completed, the projects will allow commuters to use the Domingarh four-lane bypass to reach Kalesar and connect with the Lucknow route. The Mahesra route will further improve connectivity towards Nepal and Sonauli.Before addressing the gathering, Yogi inaugurated the road amid Vedic chants and unveiled the foundation plaque. Residents welcomed him at several points along the route, with crowds showering flowers and raising slogans.The CM also extended greetings to citizens on Shrawan Shivratri and prayed for their happiness and prosperity.
