The Mumbai Indians (MI) recently won a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 and are gearing up to play a match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday. Ahead of that, cricketer Suryakumar Yadav had a playful moment when he recreated Akshaye Khanna’s viral step from Dhurandhar. Suryakumar Yadav recreates Akshaye Khanna’s Dhurandhar step
The official Instagram account of MI posted a video of Suryakumar, writing, “Ye Dada ka style hai, full Dhurandhar mode (This is dada’s style).” In the video, Flipperachi’s FA9LA plays on speakers as the cricketer is called on stage. He immediately begins recreating Akshaye’s steps from the film as those present there cheer. Suryakumar stops dancing and walks a while before he can’t help himself but dance again.
This is not the first time the Indian cricketer has shown his fondness for Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar films. Recently, when MI team owner Nita Ambani was praising Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling skills on the pitch, Suryakumar pulled his leg. He said, “Ghar ki yaad nahi aayi, Jassi? (Didn’t you miss home, Jassi?),” the dialogue a character says to Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Everyone cracked up as Jasprit’s wife, sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan, had also said the same to him recently.
About the Dhurandhar films
Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar 2 are written, directed and produced by Aditya Dhar, along with Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios and Lokesh Dhar of B62 Studios. The films star Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, and Danish Pandor. They tell the story of an Indian spy, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, alias Hamza Ali Mazari (Ranveer), who infiltrates a Baloch gang in Pakistan’s Lyari.
Dhurandhar was released in theatres in December 2025 and had collected over ₹1300 crore worldwide in its run. The sequel, released in South Indian languages apart from Hindi, has crossed the ₹1500 crore mark worldwide since its release on March 19. While it received mixed reviews and criticism for being ‘propaganda’ the film has received lots of love as well and has performed exceptionally at the box office. The Dhurandhar films tell a tale interwoven with real-world political events.
Dhurandhar 2 is currently the second-highest-grossing Hindi film after Aamir Khan’s 2016 hit Dangal and fourth-highest-grossing film in India after Dangal, Pushpa 2: The Rule and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. It remains to be seen if the film reaches the top spot by the end of its run.
