Hyderabad: Hyderabad police are preparing to file a supplementary chargesheet in the phone tapping case by the end of this month and are also considering recording the statement of chief minister A Revanth Reddy, whose phone was allegedly among those tapped.The case was registered at Punjagutta police station in March 2024. A chargesheet filed in June 2024 named six accused–Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) former chief T Prabhakar Rao, deputy superintendent of police D Praneeth Rao, additional superintendents N Bhujanga Rao and M Thirupathanna, task force former officer on special duty P Radha Kishan Rao, and businessman A Shravan Kumar.The accused are alleged to have misused their official positions to illegally intercept and record phone conversations of several individuals, including politicians and bureaucrats.A senior police officer said investigators have so far recorded statements of more than 600 witnesses, including political leaders. “In the witness statements, there were a lot of allegations against politicians and some bureaucrats. We are collecting corroborative evidence to file a chargesheet by the end of Aug,” said a senior police officer.Investigators are currently examining the material gathered from witness statements and matching it with documentary and digital evidence. Police sources said efforts are under way to verify allegations made during the course of the investigation before the supplementary chargesheet is filed.Officials indicated that the probe has unearthed substantial material since the filing of the original chargesheet. Based on the evidence collected and statements recorded from the accused and witnesses, there is a possibility of more individuals being named as accused in the supplementary chargesheet.The supplementary chargesheet is expected to place on record additional evidence gathered over the past several months and provide further details on the alleged surveillance operations that have remained at the centre of one of Telangana’s most closely watched investigations.
