Surat: The election for the posts of chairman and vice-chairman of Sumul Dairy scheduled on Monday could not take place, triggering controversy and political speculation.Speculation was rife within political and cooperative circles that the delay was driven by internal disagreement within the BJP over issuing a mandate and finalising names for the top posts. However, the election officer announced that the election has been deferred for administrative reasons and a fresh date and time will be announced later.Sumul Dairy’s recent board election saw the BJP-supported panel win 15 seats, strengthening its hold over the cooperative. After the results, consultations were held with MLAs, MPs, elected directors and party organisers.Jayesh Patel, a farmer leader, alleged that the dairy is run by admninistrator for the past one year and delay in appointments is harming the interests of farmers.
