New Delhi: Brics Summit began in the city Friday, with multiple layers of security in place at Bharat Mandapam, hotels housing visiting dignitaries and along routes earmarked for their movement during the weekend.At Bharat Mandapam, security agencies have deployed personnel from multiple forces to secure the summit venue and ensure the safety of the delegations. Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel have been positioned at strategic locations, particularly along the delegates’ routes to the venue.More than 100 trained sniffer canines have been deployed to scan Bharat Mandapam, the hotels and the routes. They are also checking historical and other important locations that may be visited by the dignitaries.At IGI Airport, dedicated immigration counters are providing an exclusive and seamless experience in the terminal and ceremonial lounge.Security agencies have also made arrangements to deal with possible contingencies involving animals at heritage locations. Monkey, snake and cattle catchers will be deployed in case any dignitary visits Raj Ghat, to ensure that animals don’t disrupt the visit.Flying drones and other unauthorised aerial objects will be prohibited in designated areas. Commandos positioned on highrises in New Delhi district will keep a watch using binoculars, monitoring the area from the ground to the sky.The movement of dignitaries and activities at key locations are also being monitored through CCTV cameras with the help of a temporary control room. Police officers are keeping a close watch on live feeds, with the surveillance network being used to monitor the venue, routes and other sensitive locations.Bomb detection and disposal squads also carried out security checks at Bharat Mandapam and other important locations as part of the extensive security arrangements to keep the dignitaries safe.
