Kanpur: Intermittent cloud cover and spells of bright sunshine kept conditions humid and uncomfortable in Kanpur on Sunday, even as the maximum temperature dropped by 1.2°C compared with Saturday.The city recorded a maximum temperature of 31°C against 32.2°C a day earlier, while the minimum temperature rose marginally to 25.1°C.According to the CSA weather observatory, the maximum relative humidity was recorded at 85%. However, south-easterly winds blowing at a speed of 7.7 to 11.3 kmph provided some relief from the humidity.The city also witnessed a brief spell of light drizzle around 11am. The shower lasted barely five minutes and failed to bring any significant change in the prevailing weather.CSA weather expert S N Sunil Pandey said partly cloudy to overcast skies were likely to prevail over the next five days, with light to moderate rainfall expected at several places. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may also accompany the showers in some areas, he added, noting that humidity levels would rise whenever the sun emerged.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly to generally cloudy skies across all six districts of Kanpur division — Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Unnao, Farrukhabad, Kannauj and Auraiya. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely, while heavy downpours may occur at isolated places.For Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat, the IMD has predicted heavily overcast conditions, with moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning likely during Sunday night and Monday morning. South-easterly winds are expected to blow at around 10-15 kmph.Explaining the lack of significant rainfall over the past two days, Pandey told TOI that bright sunshine was the primary reason.“The sunshine raised temperatures, which prevented the condensation of moisture-laden air. As a result, rainfall activity remained limited despite the presence of sufficient humidity,” he said.
