City recorded a marginal dip in maximum temperature at 37.1 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than Tuesday’s 37.4 degrees Celsius. However, the heat indexor ‘feels-like’ temperature soared to between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius,forcing many residents to remain indoors or seek shelter in cooler placesduring the day.Sultry weather conditions further aggravated the situation as the weatherobservatory recorded a maximum relative humidity of 79 per cent.North-westerly winds blowing at speeds ranging between 5.9 kmph and 11.5kmph provided little relief.Health experts warned that the prevailing weather conditions fall in the‘caution to danger’ category, making dehydration and heat exhaustion likely for people involved in prolonged outdoor activities.Meanwhile, there is some respite in sight as the India MeteorologicalDepartment (IMD) has forecast light rain or thundershowers in Unnao anddistricts of the Kanpur division on Thursday. The IMDattributed the recent rise in temperatures across Uttar Pradesh to atemporary slowdown in the progress of the monsoon but indicated thatweather conditions are expected to change with the formation of a freshlow-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.For Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat, the forecast suggests light to moderatecloud cover with intermittent sunshine and cloudy spells. Some areas maywitness light rain during afternoon or night hours,while temperatures are expected to remain between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.According to Dr. S.N. Sunil Pandey, weather scientist at CSA University,increased atmospheric moisture and enhanced moisture flow are likely tobring cloudy conditions to the Kanpur division between July 16 and 17. Hesaid isolated areas may experience scattered drizzlesand light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, thundercloudsand lightning during evening hours.
